Quick answer

What the Athlete Profile is

The Athlete Profile is a multi-marker blood test for gym-goers, recreational and competitive athletes, and anyone in structured training. It measures the things that most often limit performance and recovery but are invisible without a blood test: vitamin D, B12 and folate, iron and ferritin, testosterone and related hormones, muscle enzymes (CK), and metabolic markers such as glucose, lipids, and liver/kidney function.

There are three versions. Profile A (AED 199, 60 markers) covers the core performance and wellness picture. Profile B (AED 249, 64 markers) adds free testosterone, CK, estradiol, and copper. Profile C (AED 749, 109 markers) adds a 22-element mineral panel, an 11-marker steroid profile, and a 12-marker complete vitamin profile.

Sample collection takes 10โ€“15 minutes. Most results are ready within 24 hours. Book by messaging us on WhatsApp at +971 56 994 6523.

You need an anti-doping certification, a sports-medicine clearance for competition, or a diagnosis of a specific injury. See What This Test Cannot Do below.

Marker breakdown

What Each Marker Tells You

Every marker in the Athlete Profile, explained in plain language โ€” including what it can and cannot show in a training athlete.

Complete Blood Count (CBC) โ€” 21 markers

Red cells, white cells, haemoglobin, haematocrit, and platelets. In athletes this is the first place to look for anaemia (a common cause of poor endurance), infection, and overtraining-related immune changes. Endurance athletes can show a dilutional "sports anaemia" pattern that needs interpreting against training load โ€” not just the reference range.

Iron Studies & Ferritin โ€” 4 markers

Serum iron, TIBC, transferrin saturation, and ferritin. Iron deficiency is one of the most common and most fixable causes of fatigue and reduced performance, particularly in endurance athletes and in women who train heavily. Ferritin is also an acute-phase reactant, so it can read falsely normal during inflammation โ€” which is why it is read alongside CRP-style context and training timing.

Vitamin D (Total) โ€” 1 marker

Deficiency is widespread in the UAE, including in people who train indoors. Low vitamin D is associated with reduced bone density, muscle weakness, and slower recovery from musculoskeletal strain โ€” which is exactly the area Dr. Wali's specialty covers.

Vitamin B12 & Folate โ€” 2 markers

Both are required for red cell production and neurological function. Deficiency is more common in plant-based diets and can present as fatigue, tingling, or reduced exercise tolerance before anaemia appears.

Testosterone โ€” 1 marker (Profile A) ยท Free Testosterone + Estradiol (Profile B & C)

Total testosterone is the headline androgen marker. Free testosterone measures the fraction actually available to tissue, which matters when SHBG is abnormal. Estradiol matters for both men and women โ€” in men it is produced from testosterone and influences recovery, mood, and bone health. All androgen markers are strongly time-of-day dependent โ€” see Preparation.

LH, FSH & Prolactin โ€” 3 markers

These regulate the testosterone axis and the menstrual cycle. Together with testosterone they help distinguish central (pituitary) causes from testicular or ovarian causes of abnormal hormone results. Prolactin can be raised by overtraining, stress, and some medications.

Creatinine Phosphokinase (CK) โ€” Profile B & C

The key muscle-breakdown marker. Useful for spotting excessive training load and recovery debt โ€” but also the easiest marker to misread, because CK is legitimately elevated for 48โ€“72 hours after hard training. It is only meaningful if the sample is drawn after adequate rest.

Serum Zinc & Copper โ€” A includes zinc, B & C add copper

Trace minerals involved in immune function, antioxidant defence, and hormone metabolism. Zinc is lost through sweat and is commonly low in athletes. Copper and zinc compete for absorption, so they are read together.

Diabetes Screen โ€” 2 markers

Fasting glucose and HbA1c. Screens for prediabetes and diabetes, and helps explain unexplained fatigue or poor body-composition change.

Lipid Profile โ€” 8 markers

Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and ratios. Athletes are not automatically protected from cardiovascular risk, and lipid changes can also reflect overtraining, diet, or thyroid status.

Liver Profile โ€” 11 markers

Includes ALT, AST, and GGT. Important caveat: heavy training raises AST and ALT because these enzymes are also released from muscle. An isolated rise in a hard-training athlete is not automatically liver disease โ€” it needs to be read alongside CK.

Kidney Function Test โ€” 5 markers

Urea, creatinine, eGFR, and related markers. Creatine supplementation raises creatinine and can look like reduced kidney function on paper. Tell us if you take creatine so we can flag it on the report.

Elements Panel โ€” 22 markers Profile C

A broad mineral and trace-element screen โ€” including magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, selenium, and others โ€” relevant to cramping, bone health, recovery, and antioxidant status.

Steroid Profile โ€” 11 markers Profile C

Endogenous steroid hormones such as cortisol, DHEA-S, and related precursors. This is not an anabolic steroid test โ€” see "What This Test Cannot Do." It is used to assess stress-axis and adrenal function, which are relevant to overtraining.

Complete Vitamin Profile โ€” 12 markers Profile C

A full fat- and water-soluble vitamin screen, useful when multiple deficiencies are suspected or when diet is restricted.

Preparation

Preparation โ€” This Section Matters Most

Athlete results are easy to misread when preparation is wrong. Follow these or you may pay for a panel that answers nothing.

  1. 1

    Fasting โ€” 8 to 12 hours

Required for the glucose, lipid, and insulin-related markers. Water is fine. Black coffee is acceptable for most markers but confirm with us first. Do not fast longer than 14 hours โ€” prolonged fasting itself distorts lipids and glucose.

  2. 2

Rest from hard training for 48โ€“72 hours before the draw

This is the single most important instruction. Intense training raises CK, AST, ALT, and can shift white cell counts. A sample taken the morning after leg day will produce a CK and liver result that looks alarming and means nothing. Light mobility work is fine; heavy lifting, sprints, and long endurance sessions are not.

  3. 3

Book a morning appointment, ideally 7โ€“10 AM

Testosterone, cortisol, and several other hormones follow a strong daily rhythm and are highest in the morning. A 7 PM sample and a 8 AM sample are not comparable. If you are tracking a hormone result over time, draw at the same time of day each time.

  4. 4

Tell us about supplements โ€” especially these three

    • Creatine โ€” raises creatinine and can mimic kidney impairment. Not dangerous, but the report must say so.
    • Biotin / high-dose vitamin B-complex โ€” interferes with several immunoassay-based tests, including thyroid and some hormone markers. Stop 48โ€“72 hours before the draw unless your doctor advises otherwise.
    • Protein and vitamin D supplements โ€” generally fine, but we note them on the report.
  5. 5

    Hydration

Dehydration concentrates blood and shifts haematocrit, creatinine, and electrolytes. Drink normally in the 24 hours before; do not over-hydrate either.

  6. 6

    Timing around competition

Do not schedule a diagnostic panel in the 72 hours before a competition โ€” the results will reflect acute training and taper stress, not your baseline. Test in a rest or deload week.

  7. 7

    Bring your list

Your current medications, supplements, and training schedule. Two minutes of context changes how the report reads.

Honest limits

What This Test Can โ€” and Cannot โ€” Tell You

Being clear about limits is part of doing this honestly.

What This Test Can Tell You

  • Whether you have iron deficiency, low ferritin, or anaemia โ€” the most common fixable causes of poor endurance
  • Whether vitamin D, B12, or folate are low
  • Whether your testosterone axis looks normal for your age and sex
  • Whether your muscle breakdown markers suggest you are under-recovered
  • Whether your glucose and lipid profile carry cardiovascular or metabolic risk
  • Whether your liver and kidney markers are within range โ€” with the training and supplement caveats above

What This Test Cannot Do

  • It is not an anti-doping test. It does not detect anabolic steroids, EPO, growth hormone, SARMs, or any banned substance, and it cannot certify you as clean for competition. Anti-doping testing is carried out only by recognised national anti-doping organisations under WADA protocols.
  • The "Steroid Profile" measures your own endogenous hormones (cortisol, DHEA-S, and precursors) โ€” not synthetic steroids.
  • It does not diagnose injury. A blood test cannot see a tear, stress fracture, or tendon problem. Imaging is needed for that.
  • It does not replace a sports-medicine assessment. Performance, biomechanics, training load, and nutrition need a clinical review, not just a report.
  • A normal result does not rule out every condition, and an abnormal result does not always mean disease โ€” especially in athletes, where training itself shifts many markers.
After the draw

Your Results

โฑ๏ธ Turnaround

Profile A and B typically within 24 hours. Profile C within 48โ€“72 hours because of the element and steroid panels.

๐Ÿ“ฉ How you receive them

Digitally by email or WhatsApp, with a printed copy available on request. Every report includes reference ranges.

๐Ÿšฉ What we flag for athletes specifically

When CK, AST, or ALT are raised, the report notes whether the pattern is consistent with recent training. When creatinine is raised, it notes creatine supplementation if you told us. When ferritin is normal but iron saturation is low, it notes that ferritin can be falsely reassuring during inflammation.

โžก๏ธ What to do next

Take the report to your physician, sports-medicine doctor, or coach's medical team. If a marker is significantly abnormal, our team will tell you at the point of delivery rather than leaving it in a PDF โ€” and can arrange a follow-up consultation.

๐Ÿ”’ Confidentiality

Results go only to the contact details you provide. We do not share reports with clubs, employers, gyms, or insurers without your explicit written consent.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I rest from training before the test?

48โ€“72 hours from hard training. Light activity is fine. If you train legs heavily the day before, your CK and liver enzymes will be misleading.

Do I need to fast?

Yes โ€” 8 to 12 hours, for the glucose and lipid markers. Water is fine.

Does it matter what time of day I test?

Yes, significantly. Testosterone and cortisol are highest in the morning. Book between 7 and 10 AM, and keep the same time for repeat tests.

I take creatine. Will that ruin my kidney result?

It raises creatinine, which can look like reduced kidney function. It is not dangerous, but tell us so the report is interpreted correctly.

I take biotin or a B-complex. Does that matter?

Yes. Biotin interferes with several immunoassays. Stop 48โ€“72 hours before the draw unless your doctor says otherwise.

Is this an anti-doping test?

No. It does not detect banned substances and cannot certify you for competition. Anti-doping testing is done only by recognised anti-doping organisations under WADA protocols.

Does the Steroid Profile test for anabolic steroids?

No. It measures your body's own hormones โ€” cortisol, DHEA-S, and precursors โ€” for adrenal and stress-axis assessment.

Which profile should I choose?

Profile A for a general performance and wellness baseline. Profile B if you want free testosterone, estradiol, and CK. Profile C if you want the full mineral, steroid, and vitamin picture. Message us on WhatsApp at +971 56 994 6523 and we will tell you honestly if A is enough.

How long do results take?

24 hours for A and B; 48โ€“72 hours for C.

Can I do this at home?

Yes, anywhere in Sharjah, for an additional AED 49โ€“99 per visit โ€” one fee regardless of how many tests are in the package.

Will my club or employer see my results?

No. Results go only to you and anyone you authorise in writing.

Do you accept insurance?

Coverage depends on your provider and plan. Message us on WhatsApp with your insurance details before booking and we will confirm what is covered. [Confirm contracted providers before publishing]
